What is League of Legends Esports?

Since 2011, LoL has been played competitively.

All around the globe, there are different LoL regional leagues. Each regional league contains the best teams from that region. Throughout each season, teams will compete hard in their regional leagues to finish as high as possible, win rewards, and automatically qualify for the all-important LoL World Championship that takes place at the end of the season.

Here are the main LoL regional leagues in 2023:

  • League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) (South Korea)
  • League of Legends Pro League (LPL) (China)
  • League Championship Series (LCS) (North America and Canada)
  • League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa)
  • Pacific Championship Series (PCS) (Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Southeast Asia, and Oceania)
  • Vietnam Championship Series (VCS) (Vietnam)
  • Campeonato Brasileiro de League of Legends (CBLOL) (Brazil)
  • League of Legends Japan League (LJL) (Japan)
  • Liga Latinoamérica (LLA) (Latin America)

Everyone has their own favorite league. However, most diehard LoL fans try their best to keep up-to-date with the action and results from all of the above-mentioned LoL leagues throughout the season. After all, these are high-level leagues, and the best teams from each region are a part of them.

If you’re a beginner LoL esports fan, it’s recommended that you start by watching the league from your region. For example, if you’re American, the League Championship Series (LCS) is perfect for you.

The LoL World Championship 2023 is returning to South Korea from October 10 to November 19! In the past, South Korea has hosted 2 LoL World Championships: Worlds 2014 and Worlds 2018. After a 5-year gap, the tournament is finally heading back to South Korea to complete the trilogy.

The reason why South Korea has been chosen to host LoL Worlds 2023 is because of its hugely passionate LoL fanbase and successful regional teams. Really, there’s no better country on the planet to host this iconic tournament than South Korea.

With that covered, let’s take a closer look at some other important details surrounding LoL Worlds 2023.
