LJL Summer 2024 Schedule & Format

LJL Summer 2024 runs online from June 7 to July 28, 2024. The tournament, co-hosted by Riot Games and Carry.live, will feature six of Japan’s finest LoL teams battling it out for a slice of the ¥10,000,000 (~$63,820) prize pool and a spot in the Pacific Championship Series 2024: Summer Playoffs.

The Group Stage (June 7-July 14) follows a double round-robin format, with each team playing 10 best-of-two series matchups. The team(s) placing 1st goes directly into the Playoffs Upper Bracket Finals, 2nd-3rd into the Upper Bracket Semifinals, and 4th-5th seeded into the Lower Bracket Quarterfinals. The 6th-placed team will be eliminated.

The Playoffs will adopt a double-elimination bracket format. All matchups will be played as a best-of-three series, except for the best-of-five series Grand Finals and Lower Bracket Finals matchups. The LJL Summer 2024 champion will qualify for PCS Playoffs Stage 1 and the 2nd-3rd runner-ups will earn a spot in Stage 2.

  • Fukuoka SoftBank HAWKS
  • Sengoku Gaming
  • V3 Esports

Our Predictions For LJL Summer 2024

Need help with your LJL Summer 2024 outright bets? Let us lead the way! The following analysis reflects the top teams that could make it to the Pacific Championship Series: Summer Playoffs.

Important: These predictions reflect the perceived strength of teams based on historical trends and the latest available odds. This analysis should not be interpreted as betting advice. Past performance does not guarantee future outcomes. Always gamble responsibly.

1. Fukuoka SoftBank HAWKS

The odds position Fukuoka SoftBank HAWKS as the top contender at LJL Summer 2024. After acquiring ex-Heretics toplaner Evi and ex-T1.EA jungler Forest, the team has experienced a sharp uptick in their performance. This was clear in their dominating 3-0 sweep over DFM to secure the LJL Spring 2024 title.

SHG also had an impressive deep run at the PCS Spring 2024 tournament. Initially, they lost 2-3 to PSG Talon in the Playoffs Upper Bracket Semifinals but they made a stunning 3-0 comeback against the previously undefeated team in the Grand Final.

The success of these upsets can largely be credited to the international experience brought by Evi (3.4 KDA) and Forest (3.9 KDA), who hail from the LEC and LCK, respectively. Looking ahead to the LJL Summer 2024, SHG must maintain this form if they hope to secure a spot at PCS Playoffs Stage 1.

Fukuoka SoftBank HAWKS roster:

  • Shunsuke “Evi” Murase
  • Lee “Forest” Hyeon-seo
  • Kim “Dasher” Deok-beom
  • Rei “Marble” Shimaya
  • Oh “Vsta” Hyo-seong

2. DetonatioN FocusMe

DetonatioN FocusMe (DFM) has been a titan in the LJL for years. They have consistently won the Spring and Summer Splits since 2021-2023, reflecting their adept skill and adaptability to the ever-changing meta. Despite finding little international success, they are among the few Japanese teams to appear at MSI and Worlds.

This exposure has allowed them to fine-tune their strategies within the domestic league. At the heart of DFM’s success are veterans Yutapon (6.7 KDA) and Steal (3.9 KDA), who both competed at Worlds and now provide a reliable foundation for the team’s ongoing development.

However, DFM’s latest stint in the LJL Spring 2024 has raised some concerns. Despite a dominant 19-1 run during the Regular Season, they faced a shocking 0-3 defeat to SHG in the Playoffs Grand Final. This setback could be attributed to apaMEN’s departure, and the team’s adjustment to RayFarky stepping into the top lane.

DetonatioN FocusMe roster:

  • Minato “RayFarky” Shinohara
  • Moon “Steal” Geon-yeong
  • Lee “Aria” Ga-eul
  • Yuta “Yutapon” Sugiura
  • Lee “Harp” Ji-yoong

3. V3 Esports

V3 Esports are well-positioned to claim a top-3 finish and, by extension, the final qualifying spot for the PCS Playoffs. This is supported by the team’s acquisition of toplaner TaNa and botlaner Bini from the LCK. These additions have significantly enhanced V3’s competitiveness, as evidenced by their jump to 3rd place in LJL Spring 2024, up from 8th place last year.

The rest of the V3 roster has remained stable, which has allowed the new players to integrate smoothly and bring valuable insights from their experiences in a major region. Despite this, the significant skill gap between powerhouses DFM and SHG and the rest of the field suggests that a top-2 finish for V3 remains unlikely.

Beyond this, the odds also stress extreme caution as Sengoku Gaming is also in close contention for a top-3 finish at LJL Summer 2024.

V3 Esports roster:

  • Lee “TaNa” Sang-wook
  • Hiroki “HRK” Lida
  • Kotoji “Ace” Mugita
  • Hong “Bini” Geon-bin
  • Shuya “hetel” Koyama
