What Are Innate Abilities In Dota 2?

Innate Abilities are unique passive spells for Dota 2 heroes. They are always active, granting special effects or power-ups right from the start of every match. Depending on the hero, the Innate could be an existing ability or an entirely new one.

For example, Dawnbreaker’s Innate Ability (Break of Dawn) reveals the whole map to allies for 5 seconds whenever the in-game time turns to day. On the other hand, Bristleback’s Warpath is now an Innate Ability rather than a separate spell.

What Are Hero Facets In Dota 2?

Hero Facets are customization options specific to every hero. They allow players to try different spell builds to better suit their playstyle. Each hero gets two options during the strategy phase, ranging from buffs to new or reworked abilities. Once a Facet is chosen, it cannot be changed.

Biggest Hero Nerfs In Dota 2 Patch 7.36

In addition to Innates and Facets, Dota 2 patch 7.36 introduced many hero balance changes. It would take us forever to discuss every update, so we’ve cherrypicked the most striking hero nerfs to outline.

Note: The following heroes represent the biggest winners and losers of Dota 2 patch 7.36a based on DotaBuff statistics between May 26 and June 2, 2024.

Bristleback

Bristleback’s base damage has been reduced by 8, which weakens his laning phase. Warpath‘s damage and movement speed per stack have also been lowered initially, and the max stacks are reduced early on, while the Berserk Facet decreases Warpath‘s damage scaling.

Plus, Viscous Nasal Goo no longer benefits from Agh’s stack limit increase. Viscous Nasal Goo also replaces Quill Spray’s consistent damage, and Agh’s now has a slower spray interval. These changes diminish Bristleback’s damage, survivability, and effectiveness in team fights.

Win Rate: 39% (Immortal)

Tinker

Tinker is pretty much dead. The most striking change is that Rearm no longer comes with Magic Resistance and does not reset item cooldowns. This means that Tinker cannot spam items like Blink Dagger, Dagon, Ethereal Blade, Shiva’s Guard, and Scythe of Vyse—that means no more perma-hex!

Instead, his Innate Eureka! gives a 1% item cooldown reduction for every 4 Intel gained (up to 60%). Beyond this, his Heat-Seeking Missile ability has been removed and replaced with March of the Machines, which dramatically affects his burst nuke damage.

Win Rate: 40% (Immortal)

Pangolier

Despite minor stat boosts, Pangolier’s Swashbuckle has been heavily nerfed, receiving a +0.15s cast point adjustment and a reduced cast and slash range. The cooldown has also increased by 4s at max level, significantly limiting his mobility and damage potential in team fights.

Rolling Thunder’s damage type has been changed from Magical to Physical, and its damage has been rescaled (180/260/340 to 50/100/150 + 100% Total Attack Damage). These changes collectively limit Pango’s skirmishing potential and diminish his effectiveness as an initiator and tank.

Win Rate: 40% (Immortal)

Batrider

Batrider is a mixed bag, but his overall performance has dwindled. While Smoldering Resin adds a new damage-over-time effect, Sticky Napalm’s damage to creeps has reduced from 50% to 20%, including a penalty to Application Damage. It also no longer grants vision.

This change severely weakens Batrider’s farming efficiency. Firefly’s damage per second is also decreased, reducing his overall damage output. Although Flaming Lasso’s total damage has been boosted, these nerfs negatively affect Bat’s ability to clear waves and be effective in team fights.

Win Rate: 41% (Immortal)

Biggest Hero Buffs In Dota 2 Patch 7.36a

Which heroes are now stronger thanks to Dota 2 patch 7.36a? That’s a good question! The latest patch notes introduced several buffs that have outright broken some heroes. Let’s look at the top choices to help you dominate your pubs and ranked games!

Shadow Shaman

Shadow Shaman’s Innate Fowl Play lets him evade lethal damage by transforming him into a 1HP chicken. This passive effect also boosts his MS by 10%, applies a strong dispel, and grants immunity from all damage for 0.57s. Basically, it’s a free Aeon Disc.

With the Cluster Cuck Facet, Shaman can cast the Hex ability on allies to grant 0.1s of invulnerability and spawn three uncontrollable chickens to confuse the enemy and disrupt team fights.

Win Rate: 57% (Immortal)

Sand King

Sand King has undergone a few changes. For starters, the Dust Devil Facet allows Sandstorm to follow him, providing constant damage and a Miss Chance debuff while moving. Epicenter also has an extended duration (and higher total damage), becoming much more potent in drawn-out fights.

He also has a new basic spell, Stinger, that slows, damages, and applies Caustic Finale to a targeted area, offering the potential for new devastating combos.

Win Rate: 55% (Immortal)

Zeus

Zeus’s Static Field is back as an Innate Ability, now dealing damage based on the enemy’s percentage of health. This ability synergizes exceptionally well with Facet Livewire, which increases Static Field’s damage output the closer Zeus is to his target.

The new Lightning Hands Aghanim’s Shard further enhances Zeus’s burst potential by providing bonus attack speed, making him a formidable right-click hero and boosting his farming capability.

Win Rate: 55% (Immortal)

Templar Assassin

Templar Assassin now starts with Psi Blades (Innate), and the spill damage does not decay across units hit. She also has a bonus attack range at max level, which boosts her farming ability and makes her attacks more deadly. Instead of blocking damage instances, each Refraction instance also grants a health barrier.

So why is this change broken? Firstly, the Refraction instance is fully absorbed even if damage exceeds its capacity, offering reliable protection against continuous damage sources like Venomancer’s Poison Sting. Plus, her Refractor Facet grants bonus damage instances for every Refraction shield consumed, further amplifying her lethality.

Win Rate: 54% (Immortal)
