Share this post:

Often referred to by gamers as “Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege Mobile,” Ubisoft Montreal’s tactical, team-based first-person shooter, Rainbow Six Mobile, has been in development for quite some time. The game was announced in April 2022, has gone through multiple betas, and even had a “soft launch” in some regions. However, fans want to know when the ambitious mobile game will finally be released.

Let’s prepare to breach and discuss when Rainbow Six Mobile is coming out on Android and iOS devices, how prospective operators can play the game on their mobile devices, what the gameplay is like, and the available characters.

When Is Rainbow Six Mobile Coming Out?

While there’s no release date at the time of this writing, there are rumors that we may see the game’s official release in the first quarter of 2025.

There has been some confusion about when Rainbow Six Mobile will finally come out. The game was revealed on April 5, 2022, and its Closed Alpha began on May 3, 2022. We then saw a Closed Beta begin on Sept. 12, 2022, and a Closed Beta 2.0 on June 6, 2023. The game also had a “soft launch” in Mexico and Canada as part of a staggered rollout in August 2023.

Following that soft launch, Ubisoft planned to release the game in more regions. However, on March 14, 2024, the company stated in a post called “The Next Steps for Rainbow Six Mobile,” pausing the rollout to new territories:

“Over the past several months, our Soft Launch has allowed us to gather crucial insights and information and we’re incredibly proud of how the game is shaping up. We recognize there are areas for improvement, and we’ve made the decision to pause the rollout of new territories and content for Soft Launch for the time being. This will allow us to focus our efforts on enhancing key elements based on community feedback, as well as creating new content in order to deliver the best possible R6 experience on mobile for worldwide launch.”

The developers are focused on improving the game, including fixing bugs, connection issues, server performance, and compatibility to “ensure optimal gameplay” for more mobile devices.

Please note: We will update this article once official Rainbow Six Mobile release date information becomes available, so stay tuned!

How To Play Rainbow Six Mobile

We will pull off the bandaid right now, so keep Doc’s Stim Pistol ready. At the time of writing, you cannot play Rainbow Six Mobile if you are not in one of the “soft launch” regions. Only gamers from Mexico (Android only) and Canada (Android & iOS) can play the soft launch version.

To play Rainbow Six Mobile, navigate to the Play Store page on Android or this page for Apple devices. If the game is unavailable in your region, you can use those links to pre-register when Rainbow Six Mobile launches. Once you downloaded the game on your device, you can play as a guest or connect via your Ubisoft account.

The good news is that you don’t need to open your wallet to enjoy Rainbow Six Mobile. The game is free-to-play but does feature Premium Battle Passes. From everything we’ve seen thus far, there are no pay-to-win aspects to Rainbow Six Mobile’s monetization format.

Rainbow Six Mobile Required Specs

The official minimum required specs to play Rainbow Six Mobile on Android or iOS are listed below, according to a tweet from the developer. Your device must meet these requirements to play Rainbow Six Mobile.

Android Requirements:

  • At least 4GB RAM

iOS Requirements:

  • A12 Bionic Processor or higher
  • iOS 14.4 and above
  • At least 4GB RAM

As development continues, minimum mobile device requirements may change slightly. We’ll update this section if necessary.

What Is The Gameplay Like?

Rainbow Six Mobile is a competitive, multiplayer first-person shooter with gameplay explicitly designed for mobile devices. The Attack vs. Defense game mode (Bomb and Secure Area), in which teams of five players compete in close-quarters combat, involves tactical decisions in best-of-three-round scenarios.

Players can choose from various Operators on both the attacking and defending sides. Each Operator is unique, with special abilities, gadgets to deploy, and weapons to take down their enemies. For example, the latest Operator, Dokkaebi, can use a Smoke Bomb to cut off enemy vision and deploy a Camera Hack to pinpoint enemy positions. Sledge can use his “Tactical Breaching Hammer” ability to break through a wall and open fire on enemies using the L85A2 Assault Rifle.

A defending Operator such as Rook may use a Deployable Shield gadget to counteract the rain of bullets from Sledge, and Bandit may lay Barbed Wire and Shock Wire to slow down the attacking side’s breach tactics.

Teamwork is of the utmost importance in Rainbow Six Mobile. Players must work together to make tactical decisions on the fly, reacting to their enemy’s moves. Think of Rainbow Six Mobile as a virtual chess game with C4, barbed wire, and guns.

A core feature of Rainbow Six Mobile’s gameplay is environmental destruction, which allows players to surprise their enemies with unexpected angles of attack by breaking through windows, ceilings, and even walls.

To get an idea of the Rainbow Six Mobile gameplay pace, check out the Closed Beta 2.0 trailer below. It showcases high-octane action and attackers breaching a perimeter.

Stay Frosty: Awaiting The Arrival Of Rainbow Six Mobile

As we patiently wait for Ubisoft to officially launch Rainbow Six Mobile, there are plenty of other ways to fill the void, like playing the console/PC version of the game! If nothing else, it will help you further hone your skills as an Operator before stepping into the handheld battlegrounds. Sure, things will likely be different when playing on the smaller screen, but there’s no doubt that many of your skills will cross over.
