Orgs build superteams hoping that star power alone will lead to instant dominance, but that rarely works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In reality, superteams are built on hype, not results. This creates sky-high expectations and a win-or-fail mentality that ultimately becomes the team\u2019s biggest obstacle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s look at two recent examples of superteams in VALORANT:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"nrg-north-america\">NRG (North America)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thunderpick.io\/blog\/nrg-team-overview\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"38\" title=\"NRG eSports\">NRG<\/a> was branded a superteam after dominating the 2024 off-season, sweeping titans like Sentinels and <a href=\"https:\/\/thunderpick.io\/blog\/geng-team-overview\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"22\" title=\"Gen.G eSports\">Gen.G<\/a>. Their roster blended the experience of veterans like FNS, Ethan, and S0m with breakout rookies Verno and Mada, making them the ultimate powerhouse\u2014or so fans thought.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite an explosive off-season, NRG crashed out at the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) 2025: Americas Kickoff and Stage 1, placing 7th-8th at both events. Internal issues involving Verno and underperformance by Brock showed that the foundation of the NRG \u201csuperteam\u201d had deep cracks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"team-vitality-emea\">Team Vitality (EMEA)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thunderpick.io\/blog\/team-vitality-overview\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"150\" title=\"Team Vitality\">Team Vitality<\/a> was hailed as a superteam in early 2025, boasting a strong roster comprising Derke, Less, and Sayf. After going undefeated in EMEA, they entered VALORANT Masters Bangkok as heavy favorites. However, without a tried-and-tested formula in the international circuit, the pressure quickly hit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The team\u2019s overconfidence became the recipe for their downfall. When G2 swept Vitality 0-2 in the Playoffs, it shattered them, with a loss to <a href=\"https:\/\/thunderpick.io\/blog\/t1-overview\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"47\" title=\"T1 Esports\">T1<\/a> in the lower bracket sealing their fate. From that point, there was no sign of recovery, placing 7th-8th at VCT 2025: EMEA Stage 1 and the Esports World Cup qualifier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"why-superteams-fail\">Why Superteams Fail<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The main reason VALORANT superteams fail is that raw talent isn\u2019t ever enough. They rely too heavily on individual talent, without giving teams enough room to build synergy. Here are some other factors that explain why superteams crumble:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"not-enough-time-to-grow\">Not Enough Time To Grow<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Successful rosters grow over time. developing chemistry and adaptability that superteams skip. Without enough time to grow and work through flaws, these teams struggle to perform when it matters most.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"unrealistic-expectations\">Unrealistic Expectations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Superteams are often expected to win from day one. Anything less than a trophy is viewed as a failure. Absurd expectations make every loss feel like failure, eading to burnout and second-guessing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s also no buffer for bad days. Every round and duel is heavily scrutinized, affecting a player\u2019s confidence and leading them to second-guess every move. What\u2019s more, superteams don\u2019t have the time to work through their mistakes because fans already expect perfection. They\u2019re doomed from the start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"leadership-problems\">Leadership Problems<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Superteams may look perfect on paper, but it\u2019s not all about stats. For example, Sayf had to transition from being a duelist to IGL on Vitality, demanding an entirely new mindset. This was made worse by having another star duelist, Derke, on the team, resulting in disruption.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ultimately, the move weighed on his firepower, leading to crippling losses that later put his own ability to lead under strain. Without a naturally gifted IGL to direct a team, the qualities that make a superteam quickly break down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"lack-of-chemistry\">Lack Of Chemistry<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When a VALORANT team has too many stars, the roles can clash and players can get stuck in uncomfortable or unfamiliar positions. With no time to adapt, everything begins to spiral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Superteams might have great players, but often lack the glue needed to bring them together. As Sayf once said, \u201dYou are only a great duelist if you have great teammates. Your own skill only takes you so far, but being able to use your teammates to further <a href=\"https:\/\/thunderpick.io\/blog\/elevate-overview\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"180\" title=\"Elevate\">elevate<\/a> yourself is a key factor in becoming one of the greatest.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"internal-conflicts\">Internal Conflicts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Superteams are often plagued by internal conflict, with most issues attributed to ego. When everybody is used to being the star, it\u2019s harder to compromise and let someone else take the spotlight. These conflicts translate to poor performance that only worsens under pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Verno\u2019s drama with FNS on NRG is a great example of how internal tension can destroy a superteam in VALORANT. Despite his incredible mechanical ability, Verno couldn\u2019t adapt to FNS\u2019s leadership style, leading to tension and his eventual removal from the team. Even teams that have results like Korea&#8217;s T1 have struggled in more recent times despite their Masters Bangkok win. Friction has caused star players to willingly bench themselves to avoid baring the brunt of issues that come with massive personalities and expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"what-makes-a-great-team-in-valorant\">What Makes A Great Team In VALORANT?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s what actually builds a winning roster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"strong-team-chemistry\">Strong Team Chemistry<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps the biggest takeaway is that team cohesion matters far more than raw talent. Superteams are plagued by friction, whether it\u2019s overlapping roles, conflicting playstyles, or mismatched personalities. By building a roster around chemistry (and not clout), players can function and thrive as a single unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"time-to-grow\">Time To Grow<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Superteams often collapse at the first sign of trouble, but the best teams in VALORANT grow through such setbacks. This takes time, as players need to build chemistry and overcome their pitfalls. Trust takes time. Without it, coordination breaks down in high-pressure rounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"great-leadership\">Great Leadership<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A great team needs a great leader who guides without becoming a burden. FNS was a solid IGL, but his lack of fragging power eventually became a liability when his teammates couldn\u2019t compensate.
