He also weighs in on high-profile matchups including Kamaru Usman versus Islam Makhachev and questions Conor McGregor’s reliability compared to Jon Jones.

Dana White revealed Francis Ngannou once put hands on him in a meeting, do you think that happened?

Jorge Masvidal: 100% it happened. From what I know and have seen from Dana, you might not like the guy, some people hate him and some people love him, but the guy doesn’t lie. He just tells you straight up. That’s why a lot of people don’t like him, because he usually tells it how it is. He’s pretty straightforward. So, if Dana said it, I 100% would believe it.

You’ve recently been awarded some winnings from the Nate Diaz fight. Are you able to talk about that?

Jorge Masvidal: I won at arbitration, and then the arbitration sent the motion over to the clerk of courts for my district. The judge saw it and said, “Yep, this is fair, everything is legal and valid here. Now this is the sum that you have to pay up.” Now I have to go and collect that sum, and that’s a whole other fight, because I’ve been awarded that by judgment, but collecting on my sum is a whole other legal battle.

How much of your own money have you spent on this battle?

Jorge Masvidal: About $115,000 to $120,000 out of my own pocket, besides all the eight months that I was in training camp where I wasn’t working, where I wasn’t offered anything. Actually the UFC called me to fight for them in Miami against, I can’t say who, but they had offered me this fight, and I was like, “Man, the thing is that they pushed this date back, so I really want to do this boxing match.” And they’re like, “Alright, cool, do that.” So I could have had a fight then.

It’s a lot of things, man. I did that training camp in Las Vegas, I was away from my family, which I can’t put a number on that price. It ended up being eight months I was out there, instead of three. So not only did I not make money, I wasn’t allowed to go make money on the side because I was doing this thing full-time, so it really took a hit there, besides the legal fees I’m still paying. We still gotta be paying for more legal fees. I’m not trying to start a GoFundMe or anything, I’m just saying I’m coming after this motherfucker with everything I got now. You took time and money, I gotta come after you. Legally.

Do you think that a lifetime ban for Dillon Danis at UFC events is unfair?

Jorge Masvidal: I think Dillon Danis is a fucking idiot. Like, straight-up fucking idiot. I think a lifetime ban is more than fair for him. It’s the most fair thing; if you think about it in deep thought, man, that is like the most fair thing you could do for him, for his own safety, for his own everything.

This dude, for his own safety, needs to not be in these places. And these guys that got him, they kind of spared him, but they were shooting double legs on him and doing lateral drives. He’s already on the floor, and they’re hitting him with double legs. Somebody else might catch him one-on-one and just wreck this dude.

Why does he get to go around with this pass of, “You can say and do whatever you want online, talk about people’s kids, people’s wives, people’s livelihood?” Once you bring up somebody’s wife or fiancée, like he did to Logan Paul, that’s coward, that’s scumbag. And then you’re teaching the other generations that that’s alright for marketing. “Hey, this is the right way to go.” Like, no, you’re a coward. You suck at fighting, you can’t back it up in the ring, so what do you have to do? You gotta make your living with your mouth, like Colby and the Chael Sonnen’s in this world, because they couldn’t throw these hands right here, so they gotta do this. They gotta fucking talk like sluts and make their money with their mouth.

So this guy, Dillon Danis, getting a ban, is probably the best thing to happen to him because, I’m telling you, it’s only a matter of time and some real motherfucker he’s gonna cross and they’re gonna fuckin’ snipe this dude.

Did you have any chance to talk with Hunter or Dana about your next appearance in the UFC?

Jorge Masvidal: I briefly told Dana, I go, “man, get me in the White House, brother, come on.” And then I told Hunter real quick, “Come on, put me in the White House, man. Plus, it’s the President’s birthday.

When he’s not retired, you know who’s the fucking favorite fighter of the president. Don’t fuck around. Come on, man.” Now that I’m unretired, let’s go, bro. They gave me a smile and a giggle, they nodded, shook my hand and kept walking. Hunter smiled at me, too. They got a lot of hands to shake.

Leon Edwards, is that fight still of interest?

Jorge Masvidal: I remember at one point, he was like, “I’ll never fight you because you’re on a 0-3 losing streak.” Shit, motherfucker, you too now, but you got finished twice. So I don’t know if he wants to throw down or not. Maybe he still thinks that he’s too good to fight me, because that’s what he basically said the last two times. Maybe he hears this and he wants to get on the White House card, America versus England.

Kamaru Usman calling out Islam. What do you think?

Jorge Masvidal: It’s a very tough fight for Islam because he’s not going to be able to dominate Kamaru with wrestling like that. If Islam was able to get him down, Makhachev might be a real problem, especially in the later rounds. In the beginning, I think Kamaru won’t be too fresh and strong and just be able to wheel his way up to his feet, but if he’s getting taken down later on in the rounds and it’s effective and as smooth as he looks against Jack, it’s going to be a problem for Kamaru, because Kamaru’s not the best off his back. He’s good getting up to his feet, but he has not a lot of threats and stuff, you know, so if Makachev can find a way to control him once he takes him down, I see it as a real problem. But more than likely, I’m leaning towards Usman with the hands and the wrestling defense. I think he’d be able to pull it off.

Would you back Ilia Topuria to move up again to chase the Islam fight?

Jorge Masvidal: Topuria is a meteoric riser but then you get set on, possibly submitted or beat up. Jack Della got beat up on the feet, too. His legs were getting lit up, so if Ilia was to take a loss like that, it takes a lot of steam out.

But the other side of that coin is if he does get Islam, you gotta put him in his own different category, his own planet, the first three-time undisputed, undefeated champion of the world, never lost. Nobody could say anything about him, so it’s also about chasing that greatness.

Justin Gaethje says he’s gonna leave MMA if Paddy Pimblett gets the title shot ahead of him. What do you think about that?

Jorge Masvidal: Peace out, Homer Simpson, you need to stop, man. Stop giving your ultimatums. Peace out, fool. Why should he get the title shot for beating a guy that he’s already beat. He had already beaten him. It was decisive that he won, but it wasn’t impressive, like, he didn’t knock him out or submit him and Fiziev had his moments, and he really looked very good, so I don’t know how he came to his conclusion, but fighters are crazy.

Is Ilia Topuria title vs. Paddy Pimblett a bigger fight than Justin Gaethje?

Jorge Masvidal: 10 million times bigger. That fight right there sells out a stadium in either England or Spain. I don’t know if the same could be said for Gaethje in America. I’m sure they’ll sell out like T-Mobile or something like that, but in Spain or England, I feel like they’ll get one of these big stadiums, you know, like 30, 40,000 people. Real Madrid has already expressed that they’ll host the fights there gladly. I’m not the UFC matchmaker, but if I was, that’d be the easy sell. Patty has a huge fucking boom in America as well.

Conor McGregor apparently is going through a spiritual awakening.

Jorge Masvidal: I’m a God-fearing man, so any man that fears God, I shout out to you for that. But it’s more reliability than anything else. How many times has buddy pulled out in the last couple of events?

If I was a betting man, I wouldn’t put him on the card.

Who do you think’s more reliable Jon Jones or Connor?

Jorge Masvidal: Jon [is more reliable] for sure. Also Jon comes with his problems, it’s not like he’s perfect either. From the testing to the times that the events got pushed back, canceled, and moved. I don’t think Jones injury wise he’d be pulling out too much, but Jon is another world of problems. But I would probably go with Jon Jones. Especially if he says he’s serious.

In the second part of the interview, Jorge Masvidal discusses his legal battle with Nate Diaz, why Dillon Danis’s lifetime UFC ban protects him from serious harm, and his potential return to the octagon.
