Valve

How Deadlock Tier Lists Are Calculated

The most reliable way to evaluate a hero’s performance is by aggregating raw match data. Here’s how we collected and processed those statistics to create our hero rankings.

Data Collection and Processing

Our Deadlock hero tier list is based on approximately 134,000 tracked matches sourced via Tracklock on June 14, 2026. Tracklock collects match data continuously and uses rolling time filters to keep statistics current, averaging the ranks assigned to each team to determine match ranks. Rather than focusing on a single skill rating, we analyzed data across all ranks, so the rankings are more representative of the entire player base.

High ranks like Eternus tend to have fewer matches than lower-level brackets, allowing small groups of players to easily skew win rates and tier placements. By using data from all ranks, our Deadlock tier list is less sensitive to outliers. However, since Deadlock is still in early development, minor errors might still occur, especially when platforms constantly need to adjust how they collect data. In that case, expect hero rankings to change as more data becomes available or whenever Valve drops a new gameplay patch.

ft. Valve

Tier Calculation Methodology

To calculate our Deadlock hero power rankings, we used a weighted combination of hero win and pick rates. By doing this, we could identify which characters are strongest in the current meta, not just the most popular. Win rates were defined as the number of wins divided by the matches played, and pick rates as the number of matches featuring a specific hero divided by the matches played. This came after Valve nerfed Jar of Dead’s damage and collection rate, while reducing Ghouls’ damage and Grasping Hands’ immobilize duration, limiting her ability to farm and lock down enemies.

Seven and Victor were both hit by nerfs that hurt their win and pick rates. However, their longer-term declines are modest compared with heroes like Graves or McGinnis. These changes are perfect examples of why individual statistics like hero win and pick rates should never be viewed in isolation.

Understanding Meta Tier Classification

Deadlock hero tier rankings are designed to summarize how reliably a specific character performs relative to the rest of the roster. However, they’re not absolute measures of strength, and performance can vary based on your skill rating, team composition, item build, and matchup.

An S+ placement doesn’t mean the hero is unbeatable either, only that it provides one of the strongest combinations of results and popularity. Likewise, heroes in the D Tier aren’t necessarily lost causes, but may require greater mechanical skill or favorable matchups to shine.

This table explains what each meta tier represents and how heroes in that category typically perform in Deadlock.

Tier

Classification

Description

Examples

S+

Overpowered

The strongest performers, supported by high win rates and strong pick rates.

Seven, Victor

S

Meta Defining

Powerful heroes that reliably win games and heavily influence the meta.

Graves, Haze

A

Strong Picks

Solid picks that perform well without outright dominating every matchup.

Abrams, Billy, Paige

B

Viable

Good heroes with solid strengths but noticeable weaknesses against stronger matchups.

Calico, Infernus, McGinnis

C

Situational

Good with the right build, player, team composition, or matchup, but less reliable.

Wraith, Apollo, Vindicta

D

Underwhelming

The least impactful picks. Rankings also require regular updating to reflect the latest updates or competitive insights.

What Causes Variability in Hero Tier List Stats?

Hero rankings can fluctuate rapidly in Deadlock, especially while both the game and its meta are still developing. The main factors include:

Small sample sizes: High-rank brackets like Eternus have proportionally smaller sample sizes, making their data more vulnerable to outliers. As a result, sudden spikes or drops may not reflect a meaningful change in a hero’s actual strength.

Exceptional players: A small number of highly skilled or specialist players can disproportionately influence a hero’s win rate, artificially inflating win rates without proving the character is equally strong for everybody.

Skill level differences: Some heroes rely heavily on team coordination and simply perform better in high-rank matchmaking. This is because their kits require stronger mechanics, communication, positioning, or support to reach their full potential.

Balance updates: Nerfs, buffs, and mechanical reworks can affect results by altering a hero’s damage, survivability, utility, or effectiveness. These changes also have ripple effects and influence the viability of other heroes.

That said, you should treat Deadlock tier lists as general advice for identifying the strongest performers rather than a definitive measure of every hero’s power.

Additional Resources for Deadlock Hero Theorycrafting

While our Deadlock tier list offers a detailed, data-driven overview of the current hero rankings, there are other useful resources available to provide additional insights into matchups, builds, and the broader meta.

Here are a few options to help you refine your picks and coordinate with your team more effectively:

Hero tier lists: Compare hero rankings from different sources to see how creators evaluate each hero’s strength, popularity, and placement in the meta.

Expert tier lists: Refer to expert tier lists on YouTube or Twitch for a more granular analysis of hero rankings, based on advanced mechanics, high-level play, or competitive experience.

Third-party statistics: Look at third-party statistics sites like Tracklock or StatLocker for matchup data, hero-vs-hero performance statistics, popular team compositions, builds, and combos for theorycrafting.

ft. These frequently asked questions (FAQs) should offer some clarity and clear up any misunderstandings.

How Often Are Deadlock Tier Lists Updated?

Most Deadlock tier lists are updated weekly or after major patches. Since the game is still in early development, Valve regularly adjusts hero stats, items, the economy, and objective mechanics, which can (and will!) disrupt the rankings.

Are Recommended Deadlock Builds Reliable?

Generally, yes. Recommended builds provide a strong foundation, especially when used by professional or top-ranked Deadlock players. That said, the best build is always situational and depends on your team composition, lane matchup, and personal playstyle.

Why Are There Differences Between Tier Lists From Different Sources?

Deadlock tier lists tend to use different methods to determine hero rankings. Some rely on objective metrics like win and pick rates, while others weigh subjective factors, such as community sentiment, balance changes, and creator opinions.

How Do I Make And Share My Own Deadlock Tier List?

You can make and share custom Deadlock hero tier lists through sites like TierMaker, using data from Tracklock or StatLocker to inform your rankings. Once you have imported the roster, simply rank the heroes and create a shareable link to send to your friends.

Can Win Rates And Pick Rates Change Rapidly?

Absolutely. Hero win rates and pick rates in Deadlock fluctuate rapidly, especially after major patches and balance updates. Sometimes, less-played heroes become popular due to specialized builds that eventually become meta.

What Do “S+” Or “Tier 1” Actually Mean?

Tier 1 and S+ generally refer to the best-performing heroes in Deadlock, including those that have powerful kits and regularly outperform opponents across a broad range of matchups and team compositions. The terms are sometimes used interchangeably.

Always practice Responsible Gambling and check out our latest promo offers and boosts.
