The team that proudly wears the Made in Brazil moniker in every aspect got off to an appauling start in VCT, with a few full remakes later, the game’s GOAT, Erick “aspas” Santos got to design his own Made in Brazil roster. Turning into their best year despite a disappointing end, all eyes were on what was supposed to be an MIBR Superteam with the addition of Zekken, one of the game’s best and brightest.

Why did we need the MIBR Superteam?

As we said before, MIBR wasn’t exactly bursting at the seams with VALORANT trophies from the start of their time in VCT. The fledgling team were frequently competing for worst team in the region, with their wins being met with fanfare as they randomly clutched up against teams that desperately needed their free win mid season.

The expectations for the team changed in 2025 with the addition of Aspas, they would start Kick Off slow, with a 2-0 loss to 100 Thieves. After that a gruelling 5 set loser’s run would culminate in a 3rd place finish, losing to Sentinels. After that, they’d would make their first international at Toronto with a respectable 3rd place finish in Stage 1, this time from the upper bracket, losing to Sentinels once again, and G2 Esports.

They would get grouped at their very first international, which isn’t uncommon for teams finally getting a taste of the big stage, and didn’t even make it to playoffs in stage 2. They did so poorly that the only reason they made it to Champions 2025 was due to Americas being the only region that had different tiebreaker rules that allowed MIBR to squeak in on points. A 5th-6th finish was a respectable run for a team that didn’t deserve to be there, but MIBR would look to change things up ready for 2026.

2026 has been wrought with strife

Cortezia, lara and xenom out, zekken Mazino and tex in. The team that was “aspas and friends”, the Brazilian up and comers project was a cool experiment. With a taste for hunger, turning to staples and the huge signing of Sentinels superstar zekken put all eyes on the team and really put them up against teams like Team Vitality for status as “Superteam” on paper.

The hype was there from the start, making their way into the Upper finals of Americas Kickoff, a Triple Elimination bracket to qualify for the first international of the year. They were the final casualty of the FURIA rebuild, losing a gruelling game 5 to get knocked down to middle finals… where they lost a swift 3-0 to G2. 1 last chance, a little more time to prep, and another heartbreaker, losing 3:2 to NRG to be one of the unfortunate teams to lose 3 finals in succession to miss the international.

A casualty of the format or signs the MIBR Superteam was doomed to fail?

Mercifullyi, MIBR were not the only team to take a 3-0 exit at the end of Kick Off. Fans of aspas and zekken could maybe hope that the team was just a victim of the lack of time between finals. A strong stage 1 would be a ticket back to internationals so they could show they were a team to be reckoned with… if they could make it there.

ft. VCT Americas, Riot Games

They would once again with little to no control over their own fate win their group, somehow making it out as 1st seed with a -1 round differential. For their efforts? A date with Leviatán, prior to their Masters London form, losing in map 3, and a 2-0 loss to 100 Thieves – again.

2 Internationals missed and this superteam was looking far from super, and barely a team. Their first international would be the Esports World Cup, where they qualified for the now Parisian event without dropping a map, 2-0 Kru, 3-0 Lev. But in Paris? the now rebranded MIBR.LOS (following a merger with Los Grandes) would show us that the promised peaks were yet to be found.

They would come out of Group D as the 2nd seed with wins against a now Frost-less Global Esports, and All Gamers after losing 2-0 to defending EWC champions, Team Heretics.

In what would be saved by hindsight, they would lose in Round 1 of the playoffs to eventual Grand Finals winners 100 Thieves, in a matchup that continues to look like a 1-sided bullying, making them the only team to not make top 3 from Americas. 100 Thieves themselves would come out on top vs defending Champions NRG 3-1.

Is it too early to write off MIBR?

Currently, yes, it’s a little early, not every “superteam” is getting off to expected starts, and VALORANT teams just can’t seem to build consistently winninng dynasties. Even the best performing orgs, Fnatic, Paper Rex and G2 all have clearly observable blemishes.

Fnatic can’t close out a Grand Final and often miss the first International of the year, sometimes 2.

Paper Rex have made it to 5 finals and lifted the trophy just once.

G2 are incapable of not making it to internationals, they farm Americas but have a peak of just 4th place internationally.

Even Vitality, who are Europe’s current “superteam” project failed harder with their 2025 iteration, and with their new look are starting to look good, but they themselves feel they’re a team in growth.

<iframe title="VIT Chronicle: "I'm always surprised when people call us a superteam. Luckily MIBR are in a different group this time, but Group Alpha still has Leviatan and NRG. They’re one of the many teams that will need a deep run through playoffs to make it to Champions, but if they can patch up their often miss-timed synergies, there’s real promise behind their roster.

Saved by hindsight

So far in 2026, per match results aside, MIBR have lost to:

1st, 2nd and 3rd [Americas Kickoff]

2nd and 4th [Americas Stage 1]

1st (in their group, 5th/6th overall) and 1st [Esports World Cup]

If you need an excuse, they at least keep losing to teams that go out and win.

MIBR are an org with a huge fluctuation in hype.
