We spoke to sidde<\/strong>, coach of the defending TWC Champions, FURIA<\/strong>, going over their recent IGL experiments and their thoughts on South American rosters as a region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With recent tournaments, it’s been YEKINDAR <\/em>that’s been kind of like stepping off on some of the IGLing roles. Is that something that you think you’re going to see as a continued strategy or is there plans potentially to try a different IGL as well?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We were trying that for some maps and some of the tournaments we played. We actually, we’re not doing that anymore because we figured out that he’s so good at his role that it’s like having him call is undermining a bit of his game. And we decided just to give it a shot. And I would say it worked fine for a couple of games, a couple of tournaments, but we went back to having fun on color on maps. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We didn’t really see it as a transition. It was more like trying out to see how Mareks [YEKINDAR]<\/em> would perform as the IGL and then this could open up our horizons in terms of what we’re going to do with the change. Because our main idea is of course bringing an IGL to replace Fallen<\/em>, but we didn’t know if we maybe had an IGL already inside the team. But in the end it didn’t work out so well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With an IGL like Fallen, what sorts of things that you as a coach do to kind of prepare a player like that and the team for your like short term matches, but also kind of like long term goals?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Yeah, of course, when you have someone like Fallen, he’s heavily involved in everything and how the team works and it’s good that he has the responsibility because in the end the players look up to him so much. Like, they see him as, I mean, he’s a great leader, but they see him as something more than that because he has such a huge influence, not only inside the team, but also in terms of, of CS. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Working with Fallen <\/em>is a blessing for everyone involved. And I mean, what I do with him is I make sure he’s on top of everything that we have to do. I make sure he’s going through the things that we have to do before the match. There are some things that I don’t want him to worry about and then I take care of those and I make sure he’s going through the normal line of command that we have to do in terms of prep. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So I just take care of the amount of things that he has to do. I don’t want him being overloaded, especially on a match day. I just try to get him to explain everything to the players in a way that’s not too heavy on him. So we kind of split some responsibilities. But yeah, having a guy like him is very good because he’s taking care of a lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Would you say that one of the groups is stronger than the other right now?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I don’t say so. I think it’s well the strength of the teams, it’s well divided with the groups. I think it’s interesting because you have teams in different stages of their season, so to say. So you have Aurora<\/a> who’s coming in a good upward trajectory after the changes they made. So you have Falcons<\/a> who just won the last major but they’re struggling a bit and you have teams like PARIVISION, Legacy who are playing very well this year with some of the recent changes that they made. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So honestly looking at the teams, I don’t even say there’s a clear favorite here. I don’t think we have any advantage being the current champion because a lot has changed for us since then. But of course feels nice especially because we’re playing at home and then yeah, I think it’s going to be interesting. I think we have a lot of strong teams. I would say those ones that I mentioned, the Falcons<\/strong>, Aurora <\/strong>and 9z<\/a> <\/strong>sorry, Falcons<\/strong>, Aurora<\/strong>, Legacy<\/strong>; I think they are a good moment in their season but they still, they’re looking to prove themselves. So I think it’s going to be interesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are there any South American teams, Brazilian teams that you think are on the kind of come up and would be teams that you think should be starting to get more and more invites to these S tier events and get that representation?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Yeah, I think we have guys. So for example MIBR<\/a><\/strong>, they are a team that they were playing so good recently. They had a very good run in one of the recent tournaments that we played. We played against them twice in the tournament and it was very hard to play against them. You can see that they are building something great there and there’s a team called Dendele CS <\/strong>which is a Brazilian team; I think they are also in this kind of trajectory where they will be projecting themselves more and more into the international scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And it’s cool because you see 9Z <\/strong>is a team who basically started playing South America and the same goes for many other teams sometimes come here and it’s nice to have that kind of story coming up from back from South America and then they keep showing. But I think those two teams, they’re both Brazilian teams. I think they’re very good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You guys are coming straight off of ESL Pro League as well; how do you handle having such a quick turnaround time between finishing your last event and then coming to an event like this?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Yeah, actually we made an adaptation to the schedule so we found some time to practice because we got eliminated in corner final. So we would have a a couple of days to spare being there just doing nothing and then we actually adapted so we could come here early and get some practice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which is something that we’ve been missing a lot because with the amount of tournaments that we’ve been playing, it’s insane. You basically have zero time to practice. So this means zero time to update your playbook, zero time to introduce new plays or to give a new look to your game. So basically we go from tournament to tournament. People already know what to expect from us so we had to find a way of at least getting a couple of days of practice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So we just brought people into our apartments here and YEKINDAR was sleeping on mine and Fallen’s couch for two days. But yeah, in the end we just tried to add some practice time because right now with the schedule like you mentioned, it’s quite impossible for us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your first match is against Betboom, who is a team that you’ve previously beaten 2-0. Are you thinking it might be a comfortable opener for you?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Ah, it’s gonna be definitely closer because every time we face these rematches, teams come more prepared and they already know what they lacked in the first game. And historically I know they’re a very good team. We’ve had some good games against them and I don’t know, the first time we played them in this past event, I felt like they were a bit rusty because it had been some time since they played S-tier events. But right now I think they already picked up the pace a bit and I think they’re coming stronger. For sure it’s going to be a much closer match in my opinion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So it’s more of a fun one that we’ve been kind of ending these ones on which team do you think is going to come first? And which team you think is unfortunately going to probably come last?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Okay, let me think. This is a tough one, huh? Okay, for first, I’m gonna go for. I have a good feeling about Aurora. I don’t want to jinx ourselves, so I’m gonna go with Aurora<\/strong>. Coming first. And for last. Okay. I have to go with BetBoom <\/strong>because I hope we beat them first game, and then we’re gonna have a difficult second match. So I’ll go with BetBoom for last, yeah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
