Despite being one of the world’s most popular tactical shooters, VALORANT is not natively supported on macOS. Shocking, right? However, Intel-based Mac users can still join the action using workarounds, but only if they’re willing to spend time setting up a dual-boot Windows environment.
This guide will cut through the confusion and explain how to play VALORANT on Mac, detailing step-by-step instructions for setting up Boot Camp, hardware limitations, blocked workarounds, performance tips, and even a few Mac-friendly alternatives you can try.
Is VALORANT Playable on Mac? (Read This First)
No, VALORANT is not officially supported on macOS, meaning you can’t play it natively on a Mac as you would on a Windows PC.
That said, Intel-based Macs can still play the game by using Apple’s built-in Boot Camp Assistant to dual-boot into a native Windows environment. The catch is that this workaround is not possible on Apple Silicon Macs (with M1/M2/M3/M4/M5 chips).
Riot’s Vanguard anti-cheat runs at a kernel level and explicitly blocks virtualized or streamed environments. As a result, it’s not possible to play VALORANT via cloud gaming services or virtualization tools because Vanguard can’t get the low-level hardware access it needs to verify the system properly.
There is no safe or official method to play VALORANT on Apple Silicon Macs, and Riot hasn’t revealed any plans to make the game available on macOS anytime soon.
Running VALORANT on Intel-based Macs via Boot Camp
While you can’t play VALORANT on Apple Silicon Macs, Intel-based Mac users can download and play VALORANT by installing Windows through Apple’s Boot Camp Assistant.
Using this utility, you can bypass the restriction by creating a dual-boot setup, so you can start your Mac in Windows and play VALORANT as if you were using a PC. However, your Mac must have an Intel processor. Apple Silicon models will not work because Boot Camp is not available on those systems.
In addition, your Mac should have at least 64 GB of free storage space, although more is strongly recommended. If your Mac uses an Apple T2 Security Chip, check that Secure Boot is also set to Full Security before you begin.
Here are the steps to install VALORANT on Mac using Boot Camp:
Creating The Windows Installer
- Go to Microsoft’s official website.
- Download a Windows 10/11 64-bit ISO disk image.
Note: Windows 11 is not officially supported on Apple’s Boot Camp, as most Intel Macs lack the required TPM 2.0 security chip. To avoid complications, we strongly recommend proceeding with a Windows 10 ISO.
- Press ⌘ + Space
- Search for Boot Camp Assistant and launch it.
- Press Continue at the introduction screen.
- Check “Create a Windows 10 or later install disk.”
- Check “Install Windows 10 or later version.”
- Press Continue.
Note: Many Intel-based Macs use a driverless Boot Camp setup. However, older models may ask you to insert a USB flash drive during installation. If prompted, use an empty drive with at least 16 GB, as formatting will permanently erase all existing data.
- Select the Windows ISO image you downloaded (and the USB drive, if prompted).
- Press Continue.
- Set the Windows partition size.

VALORANT requires roughly 28 GB of free storage. However, extra space is required for the Windows installation, as well as Riot Vanguard, graphics drivers, and future patches and game updates. For this reason, we strongly recommend allocating at least 128 GB to the Windows partition.

Installing VALORANT and Vanguard

- Download VALORANT from Riot’s official website.
- Install VALORANT and Riot Vanguard, then restart if prompted.

- Apple heavily restricts third-party kernel extensions (KEXTs) in macOS for security and system stability. However, since macOS denies the system-level access Vanguard requires, a native version simply cannot function properly.
Because Vanguard cannot function without direct hardware access, it also cannot be hosted on virtual server blades. As a result, many cloud gaming providers don’t offer VALORANT in their gaming catalogs, leaving Apple Silicon users with no reliable way to play the game on Mac.
