What Are Prestige Skins In LoL?

Prestige skins in League of Legends are the cream of the cosmetic crop. These items are high-fashion, re-imagined versions of existing skins with all the flair you could ever dream of and animations to match. For example, the True Damage Prestige skin line for champions such as Akali, Ekko, Qiyana, Senna, and Yasuo incorporates real-world Louis Vuitton branding.

Prestige skins are rare, so you’ll rarely see them in a LoL match. Due to their rarity, many believe these are the ultimate skins. And while they may look stunning, Prestige skins do not offer any gameplay advantage in League.

How Many Prestige Skins Are There?

As of September 2023, there are more than 60 Prestige skins. The exact number continues to increase as developer Riot Games releases new skins via the Mythic Shop and brings old ones back into the shop rotation for players to purchase. They make your favorite champions, from Ahri and Evelynn, to Miss Fortune and Aatrox, look incredible!

What Is The Rarest Prestige Skin?

The Commemorative version of K/DA Kai’Sa Prestige Edition (artist Pan Chengwei) is considered the rarest skin in League of Legends. Released on Nov. 3, 2018, the K/DA Kai’Sa Prestige Edition was available for purchase for 2500 Worlds 2018 Event Tokens and is the first in the K/DA skin line. The Commemorative version is recolored and only available for those who bought the original in 2018.

How To Get Prestige Skins

In the past, players could purchase Prestige skins with Prestige Points in League of Legends. However, Riot Games retired the Prestige Point system and shop on March 5, 2022 as part of the v12.5 update. Its replacement is the in-game Mythic Shop, where players can purchase Prestige skins and Mythic content items with Mythic Essence (ME).

Unlike Legendary skins (1820 RP cost), you cannot purchase any Prestige skins, such as Nightbringer Kayn, Firecracker Vayne, Debonair Brand, and True Damage Qiyana, with RP. A Prestige skin can randomly drop from Masterwork Chests, which cost 165 RP each, but the chance is only 0.04%.

Prestige Edition skins are difficult to obtain. They’re unavailable in loot pools and re-rolls during their debut period. You’ll have to purchase them when they become available for the first time by earning and then spending Event Tokens at the corresponding limited-time shop. For example, players could earn Prestige Arcade Caitlyn with 2000 Arcade 2019 tokens or the Project Irelia skin with 2000 PROJECT 2019 tokens.

What Are The Best Ways To Get Prestige Skins?

The best way to get Prestige Skins outside of participating in an event and earning Event Tokens is to purchase them with ME. You’ll find the pricing for Prestige Skins below.

  • First time in Mythic Shop: 125 ME
  • Second unvault/time in shop rotation: 150 ME
  • All subsequent unvaults: 200 ME

Any Prestige Skin can enter the Mythic Shop rotation one year after its release.

How To Get Mythic Essence in LoL

There are several ways to get the Mythic Essence currency to purchase those Prestige skins from the Mythic Shop. You can find methods for farming Mythic Essence below:

  • Hextech Chests: Mythic Essence can drop when you open Hextech Chests. The overall drop rate for ME via Hextech Chests is 4% when considering bonus chests in bundles.
  • Masterwork Chests: Each Masterwork Chest has a 4.2% chance of dropping ME. There are also Masterwork Milestones with five ME as a reward. Opening 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 Masterwork Chests earns you an additional five ME, alongside other rewards such as Skin Shards.
  • Showcase Capsule Milestones: Opening three Showcase Capsules gets you five ME, opening five gets you 15 ME, all the way up to opening 25 Capsules, which provides players with an additional 30 Mythic Essence.
  • Summoner Leveling Rewards: Starting at Summoner Level 150, players get 10 Mythic Essence every 50 levels, alongside other rewards such as Champion Capsules and Emotes.
  • Event Missions & Orbs: We recommend completing various missions during events to earn some Mythic Essence. Also, be sure to open Event Orbs for a chance at earning more.

As you can see, except for Milestone rewards, Mythic Essence is acquired in the same way players used to get Gemstones and Prestige Points.

Next Mythic Shop Prestige Skins

If you’re not interested in the latest batch of Prestige skins in the Mythic Shop, we have some good news to share. Riot Games has revealed the next Prestige skins coming to the Mythic Shop rotation. You’ll find the Prestige skins making their way into the Mythic Shop with the v13.20 update (expected to release on Oct. 10, 2023) and their pricing below.

  • Star Guardian Syndra: 125 ME
  • Ocean Song Seraphine: 125 ME
  • Dark Star Malphite: 150 ME
  • Porcelain Lux: 125 ME

Earlier in 2023, Riot Games decided to increase the number of Prestige skins in the Mythic Store at any given time from two to four. This change aims to rotate through the existing library of Prestige skins more often, which means you can finally kit out Volibear, Riven, LeBlanc, or whoever is your favorite champion.

You’ll have to wait for your preferred Prestige skins—like Spirit Blossom Master Yi or Ocean Song Seraphine—to enter the Mythic Shop rotation. That’s why we suggest spending your limited Mythic Essence wisely, and if you want only Prestige skins, don’t spend your rare currency on Mythic skins or items.

It’s important to note that Worlds 2023 kicks off on Oct. 10, 2023, so expect a new Prestige skin available to purchase via Worlds 2023 Event Tokens.
