Roshan Dota 2 Guide

Share this post:

Roshan is a powerful neutral creep in Dota 2 who can drastically influence the trajectory of the game. While this formidable foe gives a hefty bounty of gold and valuable experience upon his defeat, the compelling items he drops are what make him so highly contested.

In this guide, we will detail everything you need to know about Roshan in Dota 2, including his location, abilities, and item drops. However, you’ll do well to tread carefully when encountering this creep. He’s not easy to take down and he becomes increasingly difficult to kill as the game progresses. You’ve been warned!

Who Is Roshan?

Roshan the Immortal (aka “Roshan” or “Rosh”) is a unique neutral creep in Dota 2 with incredible strength and resistance to magical and physical attacks. By defeating him, teams are awarded scaling amounts of gold and XP, as well as special items that can potentially turn the tides of battle.

Among them is the Aegis of the Immortal, which grants the holder a one-time resurrection. According to Dota 2 lore, Roshan stole this item from a shopkeeper and was cursed to have his stolen treasure taken from him for all eternity, adding a hint of irony to the item’s significance in-game.

Here are a few of Roshan’s base stats:

  • Base Health: 6,000 HP
  • Base Armor: 30 (65% Physical resistance)
  • Base Damage: 75 (200 AS)
  • Attack Range: 150 (Melee)
  • Magic Resistance: 55%
  • Status Resistance: 25%

How To Find Roshan

Roshan alternates between two pit locations in Dota 2 that you can find in the top-left and bottom-right corners of the map, respectively. His location changes based on the time of day. He travels to the Dire pit as day turns to night and then moves towards the Radiant pit as night turns to day via the nearby Twin Gate.

If either faction slays Roshan, he will respawn after 8-11 minutes, appearing in the Radiant pit during the daytime and in the Dire pit at night. Any enemy unit within 100 units of Roshan while he is “on the move” will be knocked back 150 units for 0.6s, becoming disabled and taking 200 damage.

Note: Although Roshan is technically a neutral creep, you cannot “block” Roshan’s pit to prevent him from respawning. You also cannot obstruct him from switching between the two pits.

Roshan Abilities

As the most powerful and contested neutral creep, it’s no shock that Roshan has a few strong abilities to deter players. Here’s a breakdown of each of Rosh’s abilities in Dota 2.

Roar Of Retribution

Roar of Retribution triggers when Roshan’s health falls below 80% and he encounters the team that last killed him. After unleashing a roar, Rosh inflicts 50 magical damage (increasing by 10 per minute) to enemies within a 900 AoE and amplifies their incoming damage by 25% for 8 seconds.

Slam

Slam is a non-targetable AoE ability that triggers when three or more enemies are within a 350-radius of Roshan. Initially, it deals 70 magical damage, scaling by 10 damage every minute. It also slows enemy movement by 50% and attack speed by 50 for 2 seconds on heroes.

Bash

Roshan has a 15% chance to stun enemies for 1.65 seconds and deal an additional 50 physical damage on each hit. Bash pierces through debuff immunity and cannot be dispelled, but Break can disable it. The ability is passively triggered based on pseudo-random chance.

Spell Block

Spell Block is a passive ability that blocks one targeted spell every 15 seconds. It also grants Roshan a 25% resistance to status effects. This skill cannot be dispelled or broken. It also doesn’t block spells from allies, nor abilities like Ion Shell, Toss, or Snowball.

Strength Of The Immortal

Strength of the Immortal is a passive ability that boosts Roshan’s defenses over time. It grants 55% magic resistance, reduces damage from illusions by 80%, and provides scaling bonuses every minute: 0.375 armor, 130 max health, 6 attack damage, and 20 XP.

Roshan Drops

By defeating Roshan in Dota 2, teams will be awarded gold, experience, and a few potentially game-changing items. Here’s an overview of the items Rosh will drop upon his death.

Gold And Experience

The team that kills Roshan will receive a bounty of 675 unreliable gold (i.e., 137 gold per player), granted regardless of the players’ contribution to Rosh’s death. Also, the hero who deals the killing blow receives an additional 200-290 Gold. Experience is split among allies within a 1,500 range.

Aegis Of The Immortal

The Aegis drops every time Roshan is killed in Dota 2. It grants the holder a second life, resurrecting them upon their death after 5 seconds. The player returns with full HP and mana, and they respawn at the location where they died. Roshan reclaims Aegis if it is not used within 5 minutes.

Note: If Aegis of the Immortal is not used, it will heal the bearer to 100% HP and mana over 5 seconds (the healing dispels on taking damage). It cannot be dropped, sold, or transferred once picked up.

Cheese

Cheese will drop after killing Roshan at least two times in a match. This consumable instantly restores 2,500 HP and 1,500 mana. This item can be sold for 500 gold, but only by the person who first picked it up (unless a courier picks it up, and then it cannot be sold).

Roshan’s Banner

Roshan’s Banner drops after he dies at least two times. When used, it allows the holder to place a banner anywhere on the map. Any allied lane creeps within a 600 radius of the banner will become invulnerable. The banner lasts for 120 seconds.

Aghanim’s Blessing

Agh’s Blessing drops after Roshan is killed at least three times. It permanently upgrades a hero’s ultimate (or other abilities). Once consumed, the hero will have 5,800 gold added to their net worth and GPM. You can only have one Agh’s Blessing buff.

Refresher Shard

Refresher Shard also drops after killing Roshan three times. It instantly resets the cooldown of all the holder’s abilities and items when activated (except for other Refresher Shards, Ex Machina, or Refresher Orbs). It also passively provides +12 HP regen, +6 mana regen, and +20 attack damage.

Roshan—A Creep To Be Reckoned With

Roshan may be a tricky creep to take down, so is the risk worth the reward? It’s up to every team to make that decision, but it’s important to consider the potential game-changing advantages, especially the coveted Aegis of the Immortal. Hopefully, with the help of our guide, you’ll feel more prepared to take down the mighty Roshan.
