The 5 Best Duos for Arena Mode

The 5 Best Duos for Arena Mode

Share this post:

You’ll need the best duos for Arena Mode to master the new launch in May 2024. Let us help by offering five sets of two champhions to dominate the Rings! After listening to player feedback, Riot Games has shaken things up by doubling the lobby capacity, adding a new map, and incorporating Prismatic items and Anvils.

These changes also include randomized item selections to increase Arena Mode’s unpredictability, encourage unconventional champion builds, and make every battle feel unique. In this guide, we’ll list the top five duos to use in LoL Arena Mode so you can soar up the ranks!

Note: In light of the League of Legends Arena changes, the odds of encountering meta-abusers have risen sharply. As a result, we have selected duos that excel in their baseline abilities and not at the top of any particular tier list. However, we still encourage you to mix and match teams to identify the best champions for the grind.

1. Veigar and Skarner – Our Top Duo

Veigar is a menace in the Arena with strong scaling, gaining AP stacks whenever he hits an enemy! He boasts an 18.1% pick rate and clinches the top-2 spot in 54.5% of matches. As a ranged mage with high burst damage and solid crowd control (CC), Veigar’s ultimate, Primordial Burst, also deals huge damage to a single target.

At the same time, Skarner has emerged as a cracked champion after his rework in the League of Legends patch 14.7. The rework introduced new abilities, such as a skill shot-oriented ultimate that has made him a more engaging and rewarding champion for players. Skarner retains his power despite being nerfed due to his uniquely powerful kit, strong poke, and tankiness.

Together, the synergy between Skarner and Veigar is GOATed. That’s because they excel in controlling the battlefield and setting up devastating combos. Specifically, Skarner can use Impale to drag an enemy into Veigar’s Event Horizon, ensuring they are stunned. This allows Veigar to unleash his full combo on the trapped enemy, resulting in a quick elimination. No wonder these two champions got top spot in our list.

Note: While Veigar is best paired with Trundle and Yorick, Skarner is a notable “safe pick” in the Ring. You should use the Reality Fracture prismatic and the Center of the Universe augment for Veigar. The Courage of the Colossus augment is recommended for Skarner.

2. Kayn and Galio

Kayn ranks as the most-played champion in Arena Mode, with a 19.7% pick rate and an impressive 2.35 average placement rate. We can attribute this success to his ability to transform, which allows him to adapt to different playstyles and counter other duo combos effectively. His kit also offers high damage, mobility, and early-game strength that scales sharply into the late game.

A popular build for Kayn maximizes lethality, turning him into a glass cannon capable of one-shotting enemies. Key items include Youmuu’s Ghostblade, Ionian Boots of Lucidity, Axiom Arc, Serylda’s Grudge, Edge of Night, and Serpent’s Fang. Feel The Burn is a recommended augment for Kayn to bolster his dominance in the Ring.

Galio’s CC and damage further complement Kayn’s playstyle, as evident by a 62.6% top-2 win rate. Galio’s taunt, Shield of Durand, sets up fights for Kayn, enabling him to access priority targets easily. Additionally, Kayn’s ability to move through walls synergizes well with Galio’s ult, Hero’s Entrance, which allows him to jump to an ally’s location for more coordinated attacks.

Overall, Galio is a great supporting champion, providing both tankiness and peel to allow Kayn to nose-dive into fights. The best items and augments for Galio are the Force of Entropy prismatic, which lets his CC abilities critically strike, and the Oathsworn augment, which cleanses debuffs on Kayn and makes him invulnerable and untargetable.

3. Trundle and Morgana

Morgana has a rounded ability kit that includes CC, sustain, and damage. Her Q, Dark Binding, has a root that permits easy follow-up from Trundle, while her E, Black Shield, protects against magic damage and offers CC immunity. Given the proximity between champs in the League of Legends Arena game mode, her ult, Soul Shackles, becomes potent due to its high damage and stun. Basically, her ult is a fantastic tool for locking down targets for Trundle to focus on.

On the other hand, Trundle comes with both damage and utility. Specifically, Chomp can damage and slow enemies, enabling Morgana to land skill shots. Also, Pillar of Ice blocks enemy movement, further aiding in CC, while Frozen Domain boosts MS and AS, allowing him to stay in the fight longer and deal more damage.

The most significant synergy lies in the effective use of their ults. To maximize their impact, Trundle should use Subjugate first to steal health, armor, and magic resistance, weakening the enemy’s defenses. After that, Morgana can channel her ultimate, dealing increased damage due to the lowered resistance.

Note: As of Apr. 24, this duo combo has the second-highest synergy in the LoL Arena Mode PBE, with an impressive 11.8% rating and securing the top-2 spot in 69.6% of matches. However, Trundle also has solid synergy with Veigar, Brand, Lilia, and Cho in LoL Arena Mode.

4. Master Yi and Taric/Morgana

Master Yi is an S-tier champion in LoL, but he becomes even more destructive with Taric or Morgana. In fact, these pairings were so powerful that Chinese boosters used it to dominate ranked games, warranting major nerfs by Riot! That said, Arena Mode is the perfect setting to revive these duos, thanks to its smaller maps and quicker fights that favor Master Yi’s aggressive playstyle.

In particular, Taric’s Dazzle and Bastion provide the perfect CC and defensive aura for Master Yi to thrive by locking down opponents. This allows Master Yi to swoop in with Alpha Strike and Wuju Style to unleash devastating damage. And if that wasn’t enough, Taric’s Cosmic Radiance grants invulnerability to himself and nearby allies, allowing Master Yi to go all-in without fear!

If Taric isn’t your cup of tea, you can always turn to Morgana, who is equally effective in the meta. Morgana’s Dark Binding and Soul Shackles offer the perfect opportunity for Master Yi to follow up with huge damage. Together, the duo dominates early on, snowballing into the game’s later stages. Morgana’s Black Shield also protects Master Yi from CC effects, so he can engage and disengage at will.

5. Vayne and Galio

Vayne’s ability kit allows her to deal consistent damage over time, including bonus true damage from Silver Bolts. She also has great chase and escape, with Tumble, as well as additional CC with Condemn. While Vayne is incredibly powerful in LoL Arena Mode due to her incredible scaling, her only weakness is her squishiness. But that’s where Galio comes in to keep her safe!

Galio’s ultimate, Hero’s Entrance, offers a magic damage shield and knocks up enemies, creating a window of opportunity for Vayne to deal damage safely. His passive, Colossal Smash, also allows him to deal bonus damage based on his maximum health, which can be amplified with items like Heartsteel to make him more tanky.

Ultimately, Vayne and Galio’s synergy is similar to that of Master Yi and Taric, with Galio providing frontline CC to protect and peel for Vayne. Together, Vayne’s high damage output and chase capabilities, combined with Galio’s lockdown and initiation abilities, enable them to secure kills and dominate team fights.
