Team Spirit’s History

Established by Nikita “Cheshir” Chukalin in 2015, Team Spirit took its initial stride in esports with Dota 2. However, the early days were fraught with unstable team dynamics and poor results, up until the tail end of 2020. But a remarkable transformation awaited in 2021.

After team members Yatoro, TORONTOTOKYO, Collapse, so bad, and Miposhka joined forces, the team was catapulted into qualifying for The International 2021 (TI10). There, the underdog narrative began and took a remarkable turn, with the team stunning spectators by emerging as victors.

Team Spirit’s prowess extended beyond Dota 2 as it performed incredibly in Hearthstone and CS:GO. The team’s prize tally underlines its strength, with a cumulative win of nearly $1.4 million across these titles. The org also fielded PUBG and League of Legends teams.

Their Greatest Accomplishment

The International 2021 was a remarkable fairytale story for them. Despite the staggering odds and initial group-stage struggles, the org rallied on the last two days, clinching the fourth spot and a position in the upper bracket of the main event.

In a stunning upset, they won its first match against Invictus Gaming, impressing fans with Yatoro’s rampage before being demoted to the lower bracket. Still, the Russian esports titans persevered by sweeping Fnatic, two-time TI champions OG, and CIS rivals Virtus.pro.

In a thrilling rematch with Invictus Gaming, they dominated and eliminated Invictus from the contest to face off with Team Secrets in the lower bracket final. After a setback in the first game, Spirit clinched the next, marking Yatoro’s third TI rampage and securing a spot in the grand finals.

When the grand finals rolled around, the team secured a 2-0 lead against PSG.LGD. Though PSG.LGD retaliated to level the series, Team Spirit’s robust draft and gameplay gave the crew the edge in the decisive fifth game, winning The International 2021 championship.

Team Spirit’s CS:GO Team

Since mid-2016, the Team Spirit CS:GO team has proven its mettle in the competitive Counter-Strike arena, amassing nearly $1.1 million in prize money. Despite numerous roster reshuffles, the team continually showcased its elite status.

Significant milestones include clinching bronze at the IEM World Championship 2021 and PGL Major Antwerp 2022. In addition, the org tasted victory at Pinnacle Cup II and FiReLEAGUE 2022: Global Finals and secured a respectable 5th-8th position at the IEM Rio Major 2022.

However, the Team Spirit Dota 2 team’s performance post-TI10 is a mixed bag, placing 2nd at the OGA Dota PIT Invitational 2021, 2nd at Riyadh Masters 2022, 1st at PGL Arlington Major 2022, 13th-16th at The International 2022, 7th-8th at Lima Major 2023, and 9th-12th at the ESL One Berlin Major 2023.

In a fleeting chapter, the Team Spirit League of Legends squad vanished almost as soon as it appeared. After acquiring RoX’s LCL 2022 Spring slot at the start of 2022, the team seemingly disintegrated in the following months, leaving zero traces in any tournaments or events.
