Dota 2 has a massive hero pool, yet professional teams rarely consider every hero equally viable. Instead, the pro meta is often concentrated around a small group of picks that offer reliable lane matchups, strong teamfight, draft flexibility, or enough impact to justify being picked or banned at the highest level.
This guide breaks down the strongest heroes for every role in Dota 2 ahead of The International 2026 (TI 2026), using tournament data to rank the top carries, mids, offlaners, and supports in the game.

How we ranked the Dota 2 hero tier list
This tier list is primarily based on the professional Dota 2 meta, with greater weight given to pro contest rate, role pick rate, win rate, and draft priority across tournaments played throughout Patch 7.41. We also considered each hero’s sample size when assessing match statistics rather than analyzing them in isolation.
Recent high-MMR pub match data was also used as a secondary measure to account for current Patch 7.41e trends and to examine how well pro picks translate into regular games. As a result, a hero can rank highly despite a lower pub win rate if professional teams consistently pick or ban it.
Importantly, any heroes not included in this Dota 2 hero tier list should not be considered unviable. The tables instead represent a shortlist of the most relevant picks for every role.
Best carry heroes in Dota 2
The strongest Dota 2 carry heroes before TI 2026 are currently Lone Druid and Shadow Fiend.

Lone Druid (#1)
Lone Druid is the second-most-contested hero in the Dota 2 pro meta, having either been picked or banned in 64.8% of professional drafts. When the hero was allowed through, it recorded a 62.7% win rate across 150 appearances.
The main reason behind Lone Druid’s success in pro play is Spirit Bear. In addition to its exceptional scaling, the Bear can serve as a farmed core, offering a unique mix of durability, lockdown, and insane split-pushing pressure.
Aghanim’s Scepter makes Spirit Bear even more threatening by allowing it to attack independently of Lone Druid, even after he dies. The Bear is also unusually disposable, considering that you can resummon it instantly after it’s killed (assuming Summon Spirit Bear is off cooldown).
This strength is reflected in professional drafts.
At the 2026 Esports World Cup (EWC 2026), Lone Druid was picked 20 times and banned 128 times across 157 matches. He also won 60% of the games he was allowed through, reflecting how challenging he is to deal with! A similar trend appeared at EPL Masters 2026, where he was banned 125 times and won 58.3% of his 12 games.

Shadow Fiend (#2)
Shadow Fiend is equally defensible. At EWC 2026, he was banned 96 times and posted a 61.1% win rate across 36 picks. He also leads the current pub meta with a 9.3% role pick rate and 50.4% win rate across 5,000 high-MMR matches.
Beyond his high draft priority, Shadow Fiend comes with lethal magic and physical damage. Necromastery provides right-click scaling, Presence of the Dark Lord reduces enemy armor, and Shadowraze delivers powerful burst and wave clear.
Requiem of Souls is equally devastating, capable of deleting heroes at close range while damaging and fearing enemy units caught by its soul lines. Even after nerfs in Patch 7.41e, Shadow Fiend was still among the top-5 banned heroes at EPL Masters, attracting 90 bans and 33 picks for a 78.3% contest rate.

Best midlane heroes in Dota 2
The strongest Dota 2 midlaners ahead of TI 2026 are Puck, Ember Spirit, and Pangolier.

Puck (#1)
Puck has one of the highest contest rates in both high-MMR pubs (14.5%) and pro games (77.0%), with a 10.1% role pick rate and 51.9% win rate across 395 professional appearances.
The Faerie Dragon has also remained one of the most heavily banned mids in recent pro play. At EWC 2026, Puck drew 74 bans and 34 picks, yet only managed to win 35.3% of those matches. At EPL Masters, Puck was banned a whopping 118 times and picked 24 times, posting a 45.8% win rate.
While Puck’s win rates at these major tournaments may seem unimpressive, the numbers don’t tell the full story.
The reality is that Puck is notoriously difficult to counter, fits comfortably into different team compositions, and provides strong wave clear, initiation, catch, and scaling. Puck is also difficult to punish at higher levels, being one of the most mobile and evasive heroes in Dota 2. You either pick it or ban it.

Ember Spirit (#2)
Ember Spirit is currently the most popular midlane hero, with a 12.5% role pick rate and a respectable 53.1% win rate. He was also among the five most-picked heroes at EWC 2026, appearing 44 times and winning 61.4% of those matches.
Similar to Puck, Ember is a highly mobile midlaner who gives pro teams strong mobility, reliable catch, and safe waveclear while remaining incredibly difficult to punish or lock down. Even after repeated nerfs throughout Patch 7.41, Ember continues to be highly contested in professional drafts, with a 55.3% contest rate.

Pangolier (#3)
Pangolier is another strong meta pick, with a 60.6% contest rate and 9.0% pick rate across 353 professional matches. While he has also been nerfed in recent patches, the combination of mobility, teamfight control, and durability still makes him a valuable pick in pro play.
Much of Pango’s value comes from Rolling Thunder, which gives him a reliable way to initiate fights, disrupt enemy positioning, and repeatedly stun priority targets. Additionally, pro teams sometimes flex Pangolier as an offlaner, effectively allowing them to conceal their lane matchups until later in the draft.
That flexibility is actually reflected in high-MMR pubs, where roughly 30% of Pangolier’s games are currently played offlane rather than mid.

The strongest Dota 2 offlaners going into TI 2026 are Doom, Beastmaster, and Slardar.

Doom (#1)
Doom remains one of the safest S-tier offlaners heading into the Championship season, recording a 55.1% contest rate and 56.4% win rate across 234 professional games. He has also translated reasonably well into high-level pubs, winning 53.0% of his 2,305 recent offlane games on D2PT.
In addition to being a durable tank, Doom is primarily valued for his ultimate, Doom, which can effectively remove a priority hero from a teamfight by silencing them for a period of time. With additional upgrades, Doom can also apply a mute (Level 25 Talent) and break (Aghanim’s Scepter upgrade) to the affected target.
Devour also gives him bonus gold and access to neutral creep abilities, allowing Doom to accelerate his economy while adapting his toolkit around the draft.

Beastmaster (#2)
Beastmaster is even more prioritized by pro teams, boasting a 61.7% overall contest rate and 51.9% win rate across 206 offlane appearances in Patch 7.41.
The main appeal is vision and objective pressure. Specifically, Beastmaster’s summons provide extra scouting (with hawks) and lane pressure (with boars), while Wild Axes gives him strong farming and damage amplification. Combined with his Innate ability, Beastmaster can shove lanes and take objectives, converting early advantages into towers, Roshan, and map control.
In addition to that, Primal Roar is a powerful single-target stun that provides the perfect setup for teamfights or reliable lockdown on a priority target.

Slardar (#3)
Slardar is another meta offlaner in Dota 2. Although his win rate has dipped below 50% in high-MMR pubs, his professional numbers tell a different story, with a 47.6% contest rate and 53.8% win rate across 238 offlane appearances firmly keeping him among the top meta picks for the hard lane.
But these stats should hardly be a surprise. Slardar gives coordinated teams incredible initiation while making physical-damage lineups significantly scarier. Corrosive Haze reduces enemy armor and provides vision of the target, allowing right-click carries to literally MELT heroes with basic attacks.
At the same time, Slithereen Crush and Bash of the Deep give Slardar two ways to lock down targets, while Guardian Sprint provides enough chase to make escaping difficult. His strength was also evident at EWC 2026, where Slardar was contested 35 times and recorded a massive 75% win rate across his 20 picks.

The top Dota 2 soft supports before TI 2026 are Hoodwink and Keeper of the Light (KOTL).

Hoodwink (#1)
Hoodwink is among the most popular support picks in pro play right now, boasting a 17.6% role pick rate across 689 professional appearances. Despite teams winning only 49.3% of those matches, Hoodwink still ranks as the third-most contested hero behind Puck and Lone Druid, with a 64.6% contest rate.
Much of that priority is centered around Hoodwink’s impact as a position 4 support, with Acorn Shot into Bushwack serving as a strong long-range initiation tool and Sharpshooter providing a low-cooldown break that also deals significant burst damage from range.
Even after Hoodwink was hit with three nerfs in Patch 7.41e, her pub pick-rate trend still climbed from 7.6% to 13.9%, suggesting the changes have done little to dent her popularity in high-MMR brackets. Hoodwink also remains a strong lane harasser with reliable setup, long-range poke, and enough scaling to justify her continued priority in professional drafts.

Keeper of the Light (#2)
KOTL is another strong support hero going into TI 2026.
Across 222 tournament appearances, KOTL was picked 5.7% of the time and won 58.6% of the matches. At EWC 2026, KOTL was among the most contested heroes, appearing in 108 drafts with 35 picks and 73 bans. When he was allowed through, he won 60% of the matches.
Pro teams often prefer KOTL because he provides massive utility without requiring much farm. He also provides excellent wave clear, lane pressure, and teamfight damage, while also controlling fights by disrupting positioning and attacks, all from a safe range.
Chakra Magic is probably the most important reason pros draft him, though, as it increases the uptime of allied core spells by restoring mana and reducing cooldowns, allowing them to play at a much higher tempo.
KOTL’s priority has even continued post-EWC, attracting 102 bans at EPL Masters, 48 at 1win Essence II, 39 at Games of the Future, and 28 at Asgard Championship!

Best hard support heroes in Dota 2
The strongest Dota 2 hard supports going into TI 2026 are Treant Protector and Bane.

Treant (#1)
Treant Protector is undoubtedly the star hard support in the Dota 2 pro circuit, with a 53.6% contest rate and massive 60.2% win rate across 259 professional appearances. That priority was even more extreme at EWC 2026, where Treant was banned 135 times (yikes!) and picked up only 15, winning 10 of those matches (66.7%).
Treant is popular among pros because he provides teams with lane strength, sustain, and teamfight control.
His strong base stats make him nearly impossible to trade with, while Living Armor can protect both allies and structures from ANYWHERE on the map. At the same time, Overgrowth provides a devastating AoE root.
Not to mention, Eyes in the Forest function as upgraded Observer Wards and provide massive unobstructed vision and map pressure, while Nature’s Guise keeps Treant hidden by granting free movement through trees.

Bane (#2)
Bane has also emerged as one of the strongest position 5 picks, recording a 34.3% professional contest rate and 53.2% win rate across 295 appearances. At EWC 2026, he was the fifth-most-picked hero overall, winning 23 of his 42 games for a solid 54.8% win rate.
What Bane brings is mostly reliable single-target control. Nightmare can isolate enemies or temporarily save allies, while Fiend’s Grip gives teams a long-duration lockdown tool for shutting down priority cores. Enfeeble further weakens enemy damage and cast range, making Bane especially valuable when coordinated teams need to neutralize a priority hero.
