Early History of Evil Geniuses
EG started as a Quake clan around 1997 in Victoria, Canada. The group gained immense popularity, especially given their access to a T1 internet connection. This was rare at the time since most gamers played on dialup.
Over time, the team’s presence in Canada expanded to the U.S. in Seattle, Washington. The American branch later made a mark on the emerging esports scene, establishing itself formally as a professional gaming team in 1999. In 2004, the future CEO Alex Garfield joined, and Evil Geniuses expanded to many other titles.
Evil Geniuses’ Esports Expansion
Between 2000 and 2019, EG won more than 180 championships while competing at the upper echelon of nearly every major competitive gaming title. This included World of Warcraft, Dota, Call of Duty, StarCraft, Heroes of Newerth, League of Legends, and Counter-Strike.
The EG expansion continued into fighting games like Street Fighter and Super Smash Bros: Melee, where they achieved massive success in multiple championships. In 2016, the organization transitioned to a player-owned status after Twitch acquired its parent company, GoodGame Agency.
Recent Years of Evil Geniuses
In 2019, the team was acquired by PEAK6 Investments LLC, focusing primarily on League of Legends and CS:GO. These teams were certainly impressive as they earned top rankings globally in their titles. In 2021, the organization made waves by signing the first mixed-gender Valorant team.
Today, the organization also fields an Evil Geniuses Academy team in the North American Challengers League while nurturing young Dota 2 talent in South America to carry forward its rich legacy in the title.
Evil Geniuses’ CS:GO Team
Since acquiring NRG’s roster in 2019, Evil Geniuses’ CS:GO team has dominated the scene with triumphs at ESL One: Cologne 2020, BLAST Premier: Spring 2020, StarSeries & iLeague Season 8 2019, ESL One: New York 2019, and other championship titles.

- Rainbow Six Siege: EG ventured into Rainbow 6 in 2017, undergoing multiple roster shuffles before retiring in 2020. During this time, the group showcased exceptional ability, placing 2nd at Pro League Season 9 2019, Six Major Paris 2018, and Six Invitational 2018.
- Fortnite: Evil Geniuses’ competed in Fortnite Battle Royale in 2019, but the foray was short-lived, with the team disbanding in June 2020.
